The Kerala Government has been leading the battle against the coronavirus pandemic from the front. The authorities are not compromising on the security measures which includes the screening of bus, air and train passengers.

As a next step, the Kerala Government has launched a mass campaign that advocates washing of hands. The campaign named “Break The Chain” has been flagged off by the Health Minister of the state, KK Shailaja. The campaign intends to create awareness among the public regarding public and personal hygiene in the critical times of coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

‘Break the Chain’, as the name suggests, intends to stop the spreading of the deadly COVID-19 outbreak. The campaign spreads the message of personal hygiene and prevents the disease from being contagious by using hand sanitizers and washing of hands with soap at offices, public spaces and houses. The measures to contain the coronavirus includes avoiding social greetings that involve touch such as handshakes, avoiding touching face, nose and eyes unnecessarily.

To encourage the campaign, all institutions and workplaces should have hand sanitizers at entry points. The employees should use the sanitizers before and after entering the workplace. it’s also a social responsibility of each individual to ensure that they are not being contagious. Apartment complexes should have kiosks at the entrance to encourage people to use the sanitizers.

Ms Shylaja has asked youth organizations to promote the campaign and the importance of self-hygiene. By maintaining self-hygiene, one can put up a fight against coronavirus, not just for themselves, but for the community too. Various celebrities have joined in the promotion of the campaign. Together, we can defeat the coronavirus pandemic.
